Utah Places with Indian Names

I'm currently learning about Utah's five main Indian tribes: Ute, Paiute, Goshute, Navajo, and Shoshone.
So I looked up a few places in Utah with Indian words to see what they mean.

Mt. Timpanogos is located in Utah County and is part of the Wasatch Mountains. Timpanogos means rock, canyon/ water mouth.

Wah Wha Mountains are located in Beaver and Millard Counties.  Wha Wha means good clear water (I think that's why babies call water wha wha) :)

Hovenweep is near the Utah Colorado border and comes from a Paiute/Ute name that means desert valley.

Moab means mosquito (this is just a rough translation of the word, there is no exact meaning that is known) and comes from the Paiute word moapa.

Paragonah... well, no one knows exactly what it means, but it's a Paiute word that refers to the water supply.

When Mom saw the Paragonah meaning, she said, "That's an odd meaning... no one knows exactly what it means, but it refers to the water supply... That's the weirdest meaning I've ever seen!"

Me: "Mom! Paragonah doesn't mean all of that! I was just making the word clear."

Mom: "I know, I just felt like saying that."

Note to self:
Don't take mom seriously!

Camp Floyd

A few days ago I went to Camp Floyd with my Grandma and my cousin Keri.  But, It was raining cats and dogs.  So we didn't get to see much.  But, in the late 60s Camp Floyd changed from being a military base to being a pit-stop for the pony express.  the reason why the camp was so close to Fort Bridger was because the government was convinced that the mormons were rebelling against them.  Of course, later on they found out that that rumor was fake and the mormons were nothing but peaceful (well, most of the time).  So any ways that is the research i got from that trip.  It was really interesting, it just stank writing in a rainstorm.

Please don't copy this for a report of any kind :)
Thank You

My Favorite Holidays

Holidays provide many of the highlights in my life each year.  I enjoy waiting for each one on my Hoops and Yoyo calendar, which can sometimes have some pretty bizarre ones.  Even though there are many holidays to celebrate, my three favorites are Halloween, April Fool’s Day and my birthday.

My first favorite holiday is Halloween.  I like to dress up in wacky costumes and go around the neighborhood asking for candy.  My next favorite holiday is April Fool’s Day.  I love to watch people play pranks on others (and I like to play pranks too).  My third favorite holiday is my birthday.  I always have a swimming party with my friends, which is extra special because my birthday is in December.  I also like to help my mom make my cake, and I enjoy watching my friends eat it.

Holidays are some of my favorite times throughout the year.  Even though there are hundreds of holidays to celebrate, Halloween, April Fool’s Day and my birthday are the ones I enjoy the most.

Why I Should Have a Cell Phone

I think that I should have a cell phone.  In an emergency, a cell phone is the quickest way to call for help.  There are many reasons why I could use a cell phone.

The first reason why I should have a cell phone is to be able to contact an adult in an emergency when I am babysitting.  Many people do not have a landline these days, and, therefore, do not have a phone in the house.  As a result, I would have no way to contact anyone in an emergency.

The second reason why I should have a cell phone is to be able to check in with my parents when I am out with friends.  I may not always have access to a phone when we are hanging out.  If I had a phone, I could tell my parents if plans changed or if something has come up.

The third reason why I want a cell phone is for when I am on a school trip and need to contact my parents.  If the bus got in an accident or if there was a delay, I could notify them immediately and let them know I am okay.

In conclusion, I really should have a cell phone since I am becoming a teenager and have more responsibilities.  Having a cell phone would bring great peace of mind to both my parents and me because we could always contact each other in any given situation.

Why Free Time is Important

I think that free time is very important.  Without it, we would all be tight and tense with exhaustion and stress.  There are several reasons why I think everybody needs free time.

First of all, free time helps you think better.  When you are working nonstop and you feel light headed, you need a break. Free time helps get rid of stress by allowing you to relax and do something that you like to do.

Second, free time helps you spend time with your family while doing something fun.  Families are often so busy that they never take time to hang out with one another.  Spending time together is one of the best ways to get to know each other and create positive memories.

Finally, free time allows you the privilege of being able to do the things that you would like to do.  Most of the time, we are so busy doing the things we do not want to do that we cannot do the things we would like to do.  It's nice to take a break every once in a while and do something fun.

In conclusion, free time is very important for our physical, social, and emotional well-being.  Without it, we would not be living a very happy life.
